Holistic Home Node in Tana
Let's begin with a simple definition of home.
Home – noun – the house that you live in.
Now, let's adapt this definition of home to Tana terminology:
Home – noun – the place where your knowledge lives in.
Following this logic, the Home Node is where all of your knowledge lives. If you think about it... this is quite an extraordinary place.
Imagine a portal to all of your wisdom and knowledge. A single place to organize your entire life.
This takes us into a second definition:
Holism – noun – the theory that parts of the whole are intimately interconnected, and cannot exist separately from the whole.
Now, we can finally talk about a Holistic Home Node.
Holistic Home Node in Tana
Holistic Home Node – noun – the place where your knowledge lives, parts are intimately interconnected, and cannot exist separately from the whole.
Interconnected parts are more powerful than separate parts.
Every section of the Home Node is a part of the system, and yes, each part is an independent Hub in and of itself.
But the important thing is:
Each part is connected to other parts, creating a Network.
The home node then becomes a central place in my Second Brain, that is connected to every other part in the system.
This means you can use the home to find anything (just as you would find anything in your physical home).
It's a place to visit daily, so that you can see an overview with all the parts of your system, and use it as an HQ of operations to manage work and life, to make sure everything is up to date and under control.
I organize my home node with Hubs, each hub represents an important part of my life, and is used as an access point to important parts of my Tana.
My home node has pretty much everything that I have in my Second Brain, including sections for my:
- Life Vision
- Plans
- Business operations
- Knowledge Management
- Notes
- Creation
- Areas
- Routines
- Projects
- Tasks.
Here is the Overview of my Home Node in Tana:
What I most love about my home node is that each individual hub (component) is connected to the other parts. Nothing lives in isolation, everything plays a part in the healthy functioning of my Tana System.
The structure connects different parts of a normal Second Brain into a powerful Knowledge Network that helps you gain clarity and improve execution by always having your notes easily accessible.
Notes are used to work on tasks or routines that support your projects and areas, to move you closer to your objectives (plans) and your long-term vision.
The main parts of the systems reflect the phrase above:
- 🔭 1. Vision
- ☂️ 2. Plans
- 🖌️ 3. Notes
- 🏡 4. Areas
- ✍️ 5. Routines
- 🎨 6. Projects
- 🏎️ 7. Tasks
Everything is connected in a meaningful approach to life.
Digital organization reflects a holistic understanding of how the parts of the system interact to shape your life.
The elements (supertags) of each Hub rarely live only in that one hub. They are usually accessible from other hubs. An example would be that Active Projects are accessible through my Plan & Strategy Hub, or that the Routines Hub has a shortcut to process both Notes and Tasks.
Tana's most powerful trait is having powerful connections that are easy to use, and magic happens when you are able to create hubs that bring forth these connections between supertags.
Let's take a look at how each Hub is part of an interconnected Knowledge Network that helps you gain clarity and improve execution on what matters.
